A Country Rose Reveals Our Favorite Tallahasse Venues: Southwood House and Cottages  Placed amid a stunning golf course, The Southwood House and cottages offers you and your guests an extraordinary setting for your special event. Rich in history and originally built in 1865 the Southwood House is newly restored to resemble its original and elegant historical appearance. Southwood Plantation started as a large cotton plantation, owned by George Taliafero Ward. The original mansion built in 1865 was destroyed by fire, but in 1939, George Henderson, grandson of Colonel John and Mattie Henderson, moved their family home from downtown Tallahassee on to the old foundation of the original Southwood house. Nestled among acres of rolling hills, majestic oaks, and native flowering trees, the charming manor is now a perfect wedding backdrop. A Country Rose Reveals Our Favorite Tallahassee Venues:  Pebble Hill Plantation  Pebble Hill Plantation incorporates the grandeur of an older time and the draw of rich history into your special day. The land, Purchased in 1825 by Thomas Jefferson Johnson started as a cotton plantation and later gained popularity as a hunting plantation. The beautiful house that currently stands on the grounds was constructed in 1936 by Cleveland architect Abram Garfield, commissioned by Kate Hanna Ireland. Upon Kate’s death, the property was passed to her daughter Elisabeth “Pansy” Ireland. It was Pansy that decided the land and stunning plantation home ought to become a museum, and in 1983 the Pebble Hill museum opened for all to enjoy. The art collections of both Kate and Pansy are currently displayed in the Main House.  Additionally, Pebble Hill Museum contains vast collections of antique furniture, china, and equestrian paraphernalia as well as turn of the century carriages.
